The Province has said that it will move to Step 3 of the re-re-re-opening…as of Friday July 16th. That is good news. However, they have made this announcement without accompanying details with respect to the restrictions.
The capacity restriction of 50% up to 1000 people is the only thing mentioned. Our leadership group with the Fitness Industry Council (FIC) has been lead to believe its 50% of capacity (fire code) up to 1000 people while maintaining a distance of 2m apart. Additionally, masks will not be required while exercising but are required in and out of the facility, between equipment and in the change rooms.
Body Fit’s capacity is 250. 125 people would not accommodate 2m of social distancing. Some cardio equipment will be kept out of order until restrictions ease and the strength equipment has already been spaced accordingly. Based on all that, Body Fit can have 54 people in the main gym area and up to 10 in the change rooms at any one time. This is very similar to the re-opening in July of 2020. That means you will NOT have to book an appointment to use the gym. I feel comfortable with that based on check-in numbers over the past 3 years.
I’m sure the Province will clarify closer to the last minute and then Durham Region may or may not impose their own regulations. Regardless, we will open our doors on Monday July 19th 2021 at 7AM. As members return to the gym, hours be expanded. Until then, the hours will be:
- Monday through Friday 7am to 8pm
- Weekends 8am to 4pm
Any time left on full payment memberships as of December 24th 2020 will be added and will resume as of July 19th 2021. For example, if you had an expiry of February 24, 2021, your new expiry will be September 19th 2021.
All memberships paid monthly will resume on their regular schedule of either the 1st or the 15th of the month beginning August 1st 2021.
Personal training clients will be contacted by their trainer to resume training sessions.
Folks, this has been a long, challenging and at times, very frustrating road for many small businesses. Many members have been empathetic and some not so much. Please come back with a positive outlook and be kind to everyone. We are doing our very best to work with what we have been given and look forward to welcoming the Body Fit family back through our doors.
Fingers crossed that things will only get better from here:)
